    Starter on my 98 Z71 Pick-Up

This morning I replaced my starter on my truck.  Once the new one was in, it still didnt start the truck.  I checked all fuses, battery, battery terminals, and every connection I could think of.  I got under the truck and knocked it with a hammer, and then it started.  Why would i have to hit the new starter for it to start.  Now it starts every time.  Whats up with that?

did you hear the solenoid shoot the arm out and bang against the flywheel?

either it wasnt aligned right or the solenoid was bound in there... could be either.  sucks that happened to a new starter tho.

checked the color of your oil?

I heard what I thought was the arm coming out, but it could have been the solenoid just clicking and not firing the arm.  After it started the first time, I havent had any problems with it.  Ben , remember the truck I used to drive for the place  I used to work, you know the one that you said you always liked.  Well before I quit that job I bought that truck.  It now has 245k miles on it and this was the first thing that has gone wrong in almost 1 1/2 years.

Well that didnt last too long...  I had more prob. with this starter. I took it off again for the 4th time and noticed that one of the bolts that hold the top of the solenoid on was loose. I tightned it up and reinstalled it and so far so good.

yep i do remember that one.  mike has got a story about buying somethin like 4 reman starters in a row before getting one that actually worked, not that it helps but i guess theres not a lot of qc involved with those.
